10 Bad habits you don’t realize are killing you slowly
Habits:
Habits are what make or break our lives. That’s why we all try to adopt good, healthy habits to ensure our bodies, health, and minds are functioning optimally. From proper nutrition to daily physical activity, we do everything we can to develop healthy lifestyle habits.
However, sometimes we neglect stupid habits that passively harm our long-term health. Call them unhealthy or just bad habits, but these 10 things you indulge in every day may not be good for you.
It’s time you noticed them and changed them.
Sitting for long periods
Nowadays people lead sedentary lives. The need to constantly work at work results in most people sitting at a desk for almost 8-10 hours a day (sometimes even more!).
Studies have shown that prolonged sitting leads to many health problems, including obesity, heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, stress, and more.
Excess fat around the waist is a common phenomenon among people who work at a desk. In women, prolonged sitting has been linked to coronary heart disease, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and many other female problems.
Poor posture
Poor posture is the cause of many health problems in people. Loose shoulders, arched back, etc. lead to deformities such as curvature of the spine, neck pain, fat accumulation, breathing problems, and others.
Both your health and your appearance change. Over time, this can impact your health. Work on correcting your posture, and changing you’re sitting and standing habits to live a healthier life.
Excessive snacking
An unhealthy and irregular diet is one of the biggest problems of modern lifestyle. The availability of unhealthy food with the possibility of quick delivery has only reinforced the habit of eating unhealthy food anywhere, anytime.
Overeating or mindless eating can not only increase body fat but can also contribute to many other serious health problems such as heart disease, obesity, stress, digestive problems, mental health problems, etc.
Your body needs food, but it also needs rest. It is also important to eat on time and give yourself enough time to digest the meal.
Excessive Alcohol Consumption
Alcohol is one of the most common and serious habits of modern people. Although a certain amount of alcohol is sometimes beneficial to health, consuming excessive amounts can be very harmful.
Alcohol is known to damage the liver. But binge drinking can result in health repercussions like cancer, hypertension, mental disorders, stroke, cardiovascular diseases, etc.
Heavy drinking habits also alter the fat-burning process making weight loss a difficult process.
Take vitamins/supplements without thinking
We all know that the body needs nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. For the same reason, you should not add supplements to your diet unless your doctor recommends it.
The majority of the body’s nutritional needs are met by the foods we eat regularly. Observing a healthy and clean diet shapes our diet. However, given the advertising of vitamin supplements, sometimes we take them without thinking, without knowing the side effects.
The fact is that consuming dietary supplements unnecessarily disrupts the functioning of the body and does more harm than good.
Sleeping too little/too much
Sleep is essential for a healthy life. On average, we need at least 8-10 hours of sleep a day to recharge and regenerate our body and mind. Lack of sleep only leads to lethargy, neglect, tiredness, and exhaustion, which then contribute to mental and health disorders.
But too much sleep also helps with depression, anxiety, heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. To balance your life, you must maintain a balance between your sleeping and waking hours.
Sitting cross-legged
Surprisingly, our posture, especially sitting and standing, also affects our health. Sitting cross-legged is considered a natural way to relax on the couch, but it can be harmful to your health.
Sitting cross-legged causes pressure on the veins and a significant increase in blood pressure.
It can cause excessive stress on the hips and joints, resulting in joint pain, hip dislocation, obesity, breathing problems, blood clots, etc., which is a common health problem.
Following a Restrictive Diet
We have reached a time when diets have become more sophisticated. With different lifestyles and choices, all types of diets are available to people, such as E.g. vegan, ketogenic, gluten-free, sugar-free, etc.
While some people are recommended to follow a restrictive diet for health reasons, others find it extremely beneficial. …consume them for better health.
But following fancy diets only limits what their bodies can eat. If you don’t have a gluten allergy, you don’t have to eat a gluten-free diet because wheat, barley, and rye proteins are just as important to you as other foods.
Using the computer/cell phone too often
Browsing photos on the cell phone or writing on the computer: The digital age has led us down an unhealthy path. We constantly stare at the bright screen with all our might to connect with the vast world of the Internet. However, they are just as damaging to our physical and mental health as any other habit.
Although social media causes social anxiety, seeking recognition, bad influence, etc., the harmful radiation from these devices also harms our health.
If anything, try to eliminate these devices from your life as much as possible.
Drinking morning coffee
Coffee might be your daily dose of motivation but quite honestly it’s a serious blow to health first thing in the morning. Your body dehydrates when you are sleeping and reaching out for coffee first thing in the morning worsens the situation even more.
Least to say it makes the stomach acidic, and slouching. Coffee raises blood pressure, makes heart beats rise and if it is loaded with sugar, expect it to raise blood sugar levels as well. It’s okay to get your dose of coffee but push it back a few hours for a healthier life!
If you are not aware of these little habits that are affecting your health, now is the time to change them.
