Tips for Creating a Self-Care Routine While in Quarantine

Many of our favorite self-care businesses are currently closed due to the pandemic. Massages, spas, and gyms have been our go-to when we need stress relief. It has been tough to give these places up, but thankfully it is temporary, and we’ve got some great tips for self-care while at home.

Meditation or Quiet Time

Starting each day with the practice of quieting your mind gives you a chance to start with a lowered stress level before the busyness of the day begins. Many different types of meditations can be practiced, or you can simply sit in the quiet — whatever works for you. Either way, create an area in your home designated for your morning quiet time. A comfortable spot, dim lights, and deep breaths are a great way to get you started.

Create an Exercise Routine

Despite what’s going on outside, sticking to an exercise routine may actually be easier while you’re stuck at home. Imagine the time you save by not going to the gym. The goal here is consistency. For exercise to happen, you need to schedule it. Mornings are great because exercise wakes you up and gets those endorphins flowing. Plus, exercising in the morning means you can check it off your list early. A brisk walk works well, or you can try an exercise app for inspiration..

Choose the time that works best for you and stick to it. Schedule around your exercise routine rather than it being scheduled around everything else. Exercise is an important part of self-care.

One Hour To Do Whatever You Want

One hour is a suggestion but take as much time as you need. Chances are if you don’t live alone, you might be living with someone 24/7 now, due to remote working. No matter how much you love that person, everyone needs some alone time to decompress. Just as you started your day with morning meditation and quiet, so should you end your day with quiet and relaxation.

A hot bath with candles, your bed and a great book, or a glass of wine by the fire, are some ideas. Don’t turn to a screen to unwind. They have a tendency to increase stress rather than ease it. Having a time set aside to just do something relaxing at the end of the day, will clear your mind and make you feel good knowing you cared for yourself.

Self-care while at home is never selfish. You are the only one who can take care of you. As you care for yourself, you are setting an example for others, and reminding yourself that your well-being is important.
