Dollar General Is Putting Local Grocery Stores Out Of Business

When you just think about this title for a moment, you will probably ask yourself how it is possible for it to be putting the local grocery stores out of the business? Or you may think about how it isn’t putting it out of the business but the community actually is?

There are now a few supermarkets trying to stay alive. Think about the differences supermarkets and general dollar have for a moment. The main one definitely is their number of employees. For example, general dollar has approximately 5 to 7 of employees, while a supermarket most of the times has even more than 6 in just a meat department!

Think wisely. Dollar General is not some kind of a store! You wouldn’t believe how many people believe it is. The truth is, grocery and retail stores have been overcharging customers for really basic and inexpensive things for way too long.

What happens now? You can see retailers all around the country shuttering stores… Do you know how huge that list is? We can see Sears and Kmart on it, together with Toys ”R” Us. It seems like how a lot of stores are actually selling or even closing all their U.S. locations. Many different brands, including Foot Locker, J. Crew and Macy’s are literally shrinking their back!

Let’s talk about Dollar General for a bit. It exists since the late 1950s. Many people who live in smaller towns or villages didn’t have many options when it comes to buying fresh food and good groceries. Dollar General helped them with that.

The discount store has opened more stores than ever before. There are now more than 5,010 new locations across the U.S. since 2010. When you take a look at statistics for a moment, you will easily see how it now has more than 14 thousand stores in the country. That is almost the same as McDonald’s has!

The questions are still here. How many discount dollar stores we really need in one community? I have already talked about their first mission and goal. Does the food still have the same quality? Is it still good?

Actually, these questions can be answered only if we think about the community in which that store is. How poor they are? Let’s say that everyone in one village is broke. For them, a dollar store is a perfect idea!

Should those people actually blame the Government for their situation? Their wages are probably not good, neither ours are. Losing jobs? Unfortunately, many will refer to this. I know how you feel. It is not easy.

Their whole point is opening the stores which are located in those parts of the country that are still in some way fighting with the recession. Besides that, many people live in rural places and have very low incomes. The Government and its plan are actually making a lot of money from those people.

But, what can those people do? They cannot do much. They don’t have money. They need to buy things they need in dollar stores.

The business model of dollar stores knows that very well. That is exactly how they are making money.

What do you think about this all? Have you ever been in a situation where you didn’t have any choice because you didn’t have money? It seems like how if you are rich, you can still fight, but if you are poor, then you probably don’t have much choice.

Yet, they always find a way to use us all. It doesn’t matter if we are rich or poor.

This is just a situation everyone should know about.

We all need to fight for our rights.

What is your personal opinion about this?
