Traditional dating rules that are keeping you single

Are you still single?

Have you ever heard about the traditional dating rules? It’s a bunch of crazy rules that implies the only way to get a man is to play hard to get and more such things.

It gives suggestions as women should never call a guy first, women should always hang up the phone first, women should never talk on the phone with a guy more than 10 minutes and what not.

But hey, we live in the digital world, and what does any of this mean anyway?

Here are some of these traditional dating rules that are keeping you single.

asdxsdasfDon’t have sex: Sex and physical intimacy care a huge part of the relationship. Waiting too long to hook up with the guy you’re dating just because you’re following some rigid, “three, five, or whatever dates before you get down” can not only friend zone the person you’re dating, but it also prevents you from going with the natural flow of your relationship. Well, that doesn’t mean we are suggesting you sleep with every guy you go on a date with. It’s just that, if you’re feeling a strong connection with someone, don’t intentionally stop it because of some traditional rules.

Don’t text him first: Guys feel all the same emotions we do. If you had a good time on a date, text him to let him know. If you think about him during the day, let him know. What’s the worst that can happen? He thinks you’re a cool, nice person who’s actually interested in him? That’s what dating is all about. When you stick to the antiquated rule of not texting or calling guys first, some people may perceive that as disinterest. You may come across as emotionally guarded and unavailable, and that vibe may be what’s keeping you single. Why not just pick up the phone?

Don’t agree to last-minute plans: Sometimes you’ll messaging a guy on a dating app, and he’ll ask you if you want to have coffee like right now. Just do it. Meeting in a person is better than connecting through a virtual platform. If you constantly say no to last-minute plans, it may seem like you can’t go with the flow. In the real world, plans changes. Sometimes, you may get off work early, and you want to see the person you’ve been thinking about all day. Why on the earth would you reject that because of some traditional rule?

The guy should always pay: When a guy constantly pays for every date, it sets up a weird dynamic within the relationship where the man is almost paying to hang out with you. This could even cause resentment on the guy’s end, leading to some relationship awkwardness. So if you both make about the same amount of money, split the bill while you’re splitting that large pizza.

Playing hard to get: While the chase can be fun, pushing it too far could push the guy away forever. If you want to be a tease, go ahead. But know when to draw the line, so that the guy doesn’t tire of the chase.

adffasfNo talking about your ex-es: Talking about your exes isn’t necessarily a big no-no anymore. Everyone has past, and it’s okay to talk about it. The key here is to not constantly compare your current partner to your old or sound like you aren’t over your ex yet.

There has to be a spark: We’ve seen it in movies and we’ve read about it in many books. Butterflies, violins, a spark or whatever you want to call it, the truth is it’s elusive and doesn’t always appear on a date. Don’t write your date off if you don’t feel this on the first date. For many, it takes a couple of meetings to eventually feel this way!

Waiting an hour to text: This one is just as bad as waiting for him to text. If someone has to constantly wait to get a reply from you, it’s just going to put them off. Don’t respond the same second he sends you a message but waiting an entire hour is just ridiculous.

Don’t let me show their feelings: When we rely on old-school gender roles in relationships, it doesn’t always allow men to tap into their emotions fully. By getting rid of old gender roles, men are allowed to be vulnerable and open up emotionally. And any games that complicate dating get thrown out the window.

In a more feminist dating era, it’s time to throw some of these old dating “rules” out the window. What do you think?
