Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • The editor provides the editorial vision and voice, supervises a professional editorial staff

  • It is the editor’s responsibility to reject a piece of writing that appears to be plagiarized or ghost written by another sub-editor.

  • The editor is required to make light as well as heavy edits to the content in question.

  • The editor is responsible for all the content that is approved for publishing also accountable for it.

  • The editor should also have strong oral communication skills with the ability to represent the magazine and website.

  • Must have extensive knowledge of magazine production.

  • Must possess knowledge of writing/editing for Magazine Web sites.

  • Must possess research and interview experience.

  • Strong sense of professionalism. Knowledge and strong interest in current events, history, and/or world politics essential.

  • All applicants must have English as their “mother tongue” and as their primary language for education.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Degree required. Advanced degree desired. Excellent spelling, grammar, and writing skills.

  • Must be computer proficient, organized, and flexible. B.A. degree in Advertising, Humanities, or Publishing is required; Ability to be a self-starter who can perform detailed work accurately and handle a variety of tasks.

Experience

  • The aspiring editor should obtain several years of professional experience at a magazine

  • Minimum of 7-10 years writing, editing, and/or management in a journalistic setting required. A high level of magazine and/or digital journalism production competence and experience highly desired

  • The incumbent should have professional authority in journalism, be an effective public speaker, familiar and at ease with high visibility, and possess strong writing and interpersonal skills. The incumbent should also have excellent verbal, written, and personal communication skills. Extremely well versed in the principles and practices of English composition and style, including an understanding of the usage of format and style as it relates to a variety of publication needs.

Excellent Organizational Skills

  • Detail-oriented and able to set and follow timelines.  

  • Self-motivated, can work independently.

  • Possesses good editorial/proofreading skills.
