Jim Eugene Carrey is a producer, comedian, actor and screenwriter of Canadian-American descent. He is well known by his fans as one with very energetic and witty performances. Jim Carrey made his debut into acting and stand-up film television and gained recognition back in 1990 just after being recruited for a role in a sketch comedy television series known a, “In living color.” He first landed lead roles in main productions in Ace Ventura (1994), The Mask (1994), Liar Liar (1997), Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995), Dumb and Dumber (1994), and in Batman Forever (1995.
He has even won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor due to the roles he played in Man on the Moon (1999). He also received much recognition for his role in The Truman Show (1998). Since then, Jim Carrey has been on several television shows that have won him much recognition. Well, everything seemed to be going on well for Jim. However, to be honest, in the recent times it seems that things just keep going south for him.
Everything started to go wrong back in 2015 when Jim Carrey’s ex-girlfriend, Cathriona White committed suicide leaving behind a very devastating letter for Jim. He has also been seen talking about Jesus and forgiveness to ex-gang members. At other instances he has even been seen trying to make paintings of Jesus. Recently during New York fashion week Jim Carrey gave one of his most controversial interviews yet. In the interview, Jim gave a number of responses which have made a number of people conclude that he might have gone bonkers. However, some have given him the benefit of doubt saying that he must have been conveying a deeper message or a cry for help. Jim Carrey answers his would-be interviewer in a very controversial manner. He said, “There’s no meaning to any of this. I wanted to find the most meaningless thing that I could come to and join, and here I am. I mean, you’ve got to admit, it’s completely meaningless.”
Jim Carrey’s responses not only surprise his audience but they also drain the joy and hype of his interview Catt Sadler. At this point Saddler tries to salvage the interview by pointing out that the Fashion Week at New York was meant to celebrate icons such as Jim himself. She goes on to ask about the ability of icons and renown people to inspire other people. However, Jims response shocks Saddler even more. Carrey goes on to say, “I don’t believe in icons. I don’t believe in personalities. I believe that peace lies beyond personalities, beyond invention and disguise, beyond the red ‘S’ you wear on your chest, that makes bullets bounce off.”
Well, Saddler was quite surprised by Jim Carrey’s sentiments, and so are his fans. In a bid explain his strange behavior at the New York Fashion Week, Jim Carrey had this to say, “As an actor you play characters, and if you go deep enough into those characters, you realize your own character is pretty thin to begin with. You suddenly have this separation and go, ‘Who’s Jim Carrey? Oh, he doesn’t exist actually. There’s just a relative manifestation of consciousness appearing, and someone gave him a name, a religion, a nationality, and he clustered those together into something that’s supposed to be a personality, and it doesn’t actually exist. None of that stuff, if you drill down, is real.”
From his sentiments, it hard to tell whether he is apologetic or just giving an excuse for his bizarre behavior. However, one thing is for sure, he is searching for something that he feels he is missing. How many times have you heard similar sentiments from celebrities and rich guys? It is true that, everyone yearns for that feeling of fulfilment. Whether it be due to accomplishing dreams you had at one time such as winning a Nobel prize, winning the golden globe.
However, many people have achieved all these and still ask the question, What next? Well, it is by knowing God that man can get that ultimate feeling of fulfillment. Maybe, this is what Jim Carrey is looking for: fulfillment. He is very successful, the money and the fame. I mean, there is no denying the fact that Jim Carrey is very talented and has really made it in his acting career. And yet he feels that everything, including himself doesn’t exists and it doesn’t matter! He is doing some soul searching for something greater. Something that would give him a sense of fulfillment and peace of mind. He is searching for Jesus.
What is my life’s purpose? We can only hope that he finds himself and makes a comeback soon.
Could this be the end of his acting career?
Or is he trying to reinvent his new image?
